The 2024-25 cohort of Leaders in Teaching and Learning.

The Leaders in Teaching and Learning program develops faculty leaders to foster effective teaching within disciplinary units across campus. Leaders engage in professional development sessions, contribute to a teaching and learning initiative, interview a leader of teaching and learning in their own discipline, and craft a leadership vision statement. Leaders also receive funding to attend the USG Teaching and Learning conference.

In its first year, ten Leaders in Teaching and Learning completed all elements of the program and earned badges to include in their dossiers as documentation of their commitment to student success. Himani Sharma, senior lecturer in Materials Science and Engineering, reflected that “prior to joining the Leaders in Teaching and Learning, I hadn’t thought of myself as a leader per se, but through cross-disciplinary conversations and projects such as the informational interview, this program helped me embrace a broader role as a leader in teaching & learning.”

For their final projects, the Leaders developed leadership visions that they used to craft short term action plans. Lesley Baradel, lecturer in Biological Sciences, used the opportunity to articulate her vision for cultivating a culture where innovative pedagogy and emerging technology, especially Generative AI, converge to enhance student success. She is moving forward with this vision by collaborating with the Center for 21st Century Universities to establish the Bill Kent Family Foundation AI in Higher Education Fellowship.
